Alice in Wonderland
Disney’s 1951 animated film and 2010 live action film were both based on Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and its 1871 sequel Through the Looking-Glass.
Both films retain the “too tall” and “too short” motifs which serve to illustrate the dramatic physical changes we go through during puberty. The main character, Alice, also learns the reality of social hierarchies (thought her interections with the Red Queen), proper social behavior (The Tea Party scene), and has an existential crisis typical of growing up in her encounter with the Hookah-Smoking Caterpillar.
